Lock function in the Software Managerđź”—

The MVTec Software Manager is lockable via the icon. The communication between the Software Manager frontend and backend is secured by default, only a unlocked frontend can communicate with the backend.

Unlocking the frontend requires an unlock token, either entered in the frontend login form or passed as a URL query parameter. The token for the current session is displayed in the Software Manager console output at startup. It can also be copied from the tray icon menu. When the Software Manager launches the frontend during startup—or when you select “Open Software Manager” from the tray icon menu—the token is provided automatically.

Alternatively to the randomly generated token, you can set a fixed frontend password:

  • Temporarily: start SOM with the command-line option --password.
  • Permanently: run som config server.password <password>, edit the som.config file, or enter the password in the frontend’s Settings dialog.

Note

The Software Manager stores only a hash of the password, so the plaintext password cannot be recovered if lost. You can, however, set a new password using any of the methods above.

The locking feature can be disabled with the command line option --insecure. We do not recommend disabling the lock feature. For more information, see Using the Software Manager from the command line.
